An exemplary tweet

Let William Gibson demonstrate how to write a Twitter post, with an embedded argument:

How does this work?

  1. Three sentences within one tweet.  Like a five-paragraph essay or a haiku, this lets the tweeter offer three points.
  2. Powerful references pack some words with extra meaning.  “plutophile” jangles nerves through neologism, while possibly pointing towards “plutonomy“.
  3. Personal presence (“I was…”).
  4. Unexpected shifts between sentences – postmodern to unmemorable.
  5. The combination unfolds as a micro-story.
