Teaching with multimedia narrative

Digital storytelling is playing an increasing role in education. Today’s example is one photo story from the phenomenal Vermont Young Writers Project.*

The story began with a visual prompt, the photo to the right of this post:

Students were asked to find a picture of an elder, write a very brief story, record themselves reading it and add a musical background that sets a tone.

Read that story carefully, and listen to the author’s voice in audio.

*An online environment for Vermont teenagers to write together, using social media for peer feedback and personal connections. Why doesn’t every state have this already?
